Howdy, fellow Steamers and fans of Steampunk/Dieselpunk and alternate era England. I've a quick question. Since I'm a collector of fine and rare brews, ales, and teas. I'm wondering how many people are interested if I do a few reviews here for those items and post them as well as those who sample the same items.
My first choice list of items to review are of course English/Irish/Scotch Teas (Earl Gray and similar) and its history.
As well as various ales and other beverages both alcoholic and non-alcohol for those who wish to add another items for Steam related events.
Please feel free to let me know if I should persue this for fellow Steamers to enjoy.

For the record, NCIS had been in contact with me prior to their airing the infamous "Steampunk" episode.

The wanted to license our (Abney Park) music for the background of that club scene because they had heard we were "the" Steampunk band. For their main goth character they license a lot of Collide, and KaRIN is a friend of mine so it was easy for them to get a hold of me.
Bare in mind, they know "goth" because they have been researching it for years for there Character Abby, but they are all outsiders even to that scene. When they showed me the part of the script that described the Steampunk scene, and it suggested coffins and shit for the background of the club. I offered to talk with the set designer, and costumer, and I suggested moving the location to The Edison...but they said they were already out of time and out of money. They said they wanted to do the Edison, but it cost too much. I get this, The Kniting Factory charged G4TV $20,000 to film us playing there for our episode. Thats a metric shit-ton of money, and this was a brief scene.
I haven't seen the episode (don't have "TV"), so I still don't know what it was like, or if they used any of our music, but I've heard it was as "off target" as I feared it would be. ...but honestly, I don't think its a big issue. "Hippies" were painted pretty stupidly in the late 50's early 60's. Grunge rock is STILL painted pretty lamely by mainstream media - yet Hendrix, and Pearl Jam certinly weren't hurt of this portrayal. I think subcultures never really get painted well outside their own scene. Lets face it "outsiders" would be "outsiders" if the totally got it.
It is a bit odd though, since NCIS really does care about authenticity, and takes a lot of effort in their "Abby" character to make her an authentic goth. They told me they really were trying to get Steampunk right (which is why they called me) but they just didn't have time or budget to make the course corrections after talking with me, and I get that (it was only a few weeks ago that they talked with me, and they had only called me for music).
Lets not forget that EVERYTHING in the world is done by a small group of people doing there best. Even TV shows. If they had a second change to do this, or more money, I'm sure they would have hired Jake Von Slat for sets, Anachronut for costumes, and filmed it at the Edison. They did their best given their limited time, knowledge, and budject.

Ian, James and I were very excited and pleased to be contacted by the BBC to do a quick interview on Steampunk for their technology programme. I was afraid how they would make us come across but I think its not turned out too bad at all.

It's freezing here in Phoenix! I woke up this morning and it was 40 degrees! I didn't know what to do with myself; I can barely get out of bed! It's nice, though, being able to wear my coats and boots without feeling like a complete idiot. That's why I figured that I had better make some stew while the weather lasts, as I'm sure it will be back in the 80s in a few weeks. I've made stew with beer and stew with wine before, but never a stew with both beer and wine. It's really a brilliant idea. The broth in this stew is full of rich flavors that completely satisfy along with the tender meat that melts in your mouth and the flavorful root vegetables that everyone loves. I had to use Guinness, of course, because what's a stew without it? Kramer and I ate this as leftovers for a few days and it just kept getting better and better, so it's a perfect meal for a big family or even just two people! Recipe on my blog at The Crepes of Wrath or after the cut.

That's some cream-cheese frosting sandwiched between two pumpkin-spice cakes with a pool of caramel on top.
REALLY GOOD. WANT TO EAT AGAIN. please.

Hi there,
as I'm in bento-fever now, here is today's bento:

It's leftover smoked salmon with rice, nicely shaped vegetables and some fruit. The white cream in the middle is creamed horseradish for the salmon.
In the lid are some smarties.
Now I'm waiting for some items to get shipped so I can improve the look of my bentos a little more like the cute ones that can be seen around here.

So. My laptop likes to fuck with me and anything internet lately, but things are mostly normal until I visit Poupée. That is, things slow down incredibly and things that need 'on-screen loading' (you know, with the little ladybug-window) sometimes don't even work at all. I sometimes can't comment, I get display-glitches and adding friends seems like the worst crime I could ever commit that needs to be totally prevented. Sometimes, nothing loads at all and I have to close the whole browser to be able to enter poupee again at all. It usually also slows down other websites, too, parallely or afterwards. The "clear the cache"-credo does not help either, usually only for, like, ten minutes or something until everything is back as before.
I'm not sure if it has to do anything with Java/Flash, the masses to load, IE*, my laptop or something very differently, so I thought I might ask if someone has experienced this before or if someone has an idea what the problem could be.
*I personally doubt that, since the page works well on other PCs with extremely old browsers, too...

Hi everyone, I have been working on a new, stricter system that we can use in the future for banning buyers/sellers who are negligent or who turn out to be scammers. I'm posting this here so you guys can give me feedback on the procedure; please take the time to read and comment with any advice, etc.
Also of note, we are introducing new sales_comm only moderators this week. They will be
sleepingapple and
chocomimi. Please give them a warm welcome and be courteous to them should they have to remind you of any community rules. I will add them on as moderators on Friday. :] I believe more new moderators are still going to be added once we have heard back from those prospective parties.

I just want to remind everyone that there are OTK Slouchy Boots as one of the items for the incentive. Don't miss it because it will not come back after this month!! Since I know that the majority of people adore this style of boots when it was only knee high, I'm pretty sure that people will like it when it is OTK. I missed the brown ones previously already and I sold my black ones for 20rb way back then. *facepalm*
You can check out the other items here. But they aren't that interesting imo. XD
PS. I don't know what the 10th and 20th stamp presents are.

See them worn here.

I have to ask since the holidays are upon us or nearing. What is on your Lolita wishlist?
Hey LJers,
I just wanted to let you all know that we are going to be performing some mogilefs maintenance over the next few days. We will be upgrading our current version to latest stable as well as changing some db config information to better handle the amount of files we are currently hosting. This shouldn't cause a big impact on site stability, but you may see some minor delays with userpic / scrapbook images appearing or other requests associated with our mogilefs. We would love to not have that happen, but unfortunately with some of the steps we need to take we have to cause a delay with images. I figured this was a better solution than taking down all of LiveJournal because well lets face it, we all need our daily LJ fix ;)
Thanks,

Hi guys ^___^
I decided to make handmade Christmas card this year, but I've never made them before. I was thinking about embellish them with satin and some ribbons and buttons. Now my question is: how the hell can I fix the fabric and the buttons to the base of the cards that's made of cardboard without making a disaster?
Thank you very much for the help *bows*, have a nice day ^____^

If you had 100 shells to use, what would you do with them?
Or if you had a large number of shells before, what did you do with them?
a) Sell them and get a guaranteed 500 ribbons
b) Throw them in the shell spring
c) Do 50-50 of the above
d) Save them for some future event...?
Last time there was shell rain I collected 100 shells, but it's been over a month now and I've just let them sit there, unable to decide what to do with them... I thought it might be fun to hear what shell savers tend to do with a huge number of them. :O

Project Title: Leopard Capelet
Project Start Date: 11/30/09
Planned Finish Date: Same Day
Actual Finish Date: 11/30/09
Did you make changes from original plan? Originally was gonna do just one tie. Also been wearing it to the side stead of opened down the middle.
How happy are you with the result? 100%! Can't wait to make a Kuro outfit to match! Unfortunately all I have to pair it with right now is a kinna retro-y looking outfit. Sure does inspire me to use up that black kona cotton that's been sittin around. XD

There were two cherries, but when the server handed me the drink, I vacuumed the first one quickly.
The drink was okay, but the second it got warm I was disappointed. I had to suck it down real quick and that made me loopy for the 1.5 hours we were at the restaurant.
I guess its safe to say that this drink is a specialty of ChaCho's in San Antonio, TX
